Afternoon Tea - Great British Tradition

“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea…” Henry James ‘The portrait of a lady’

Enjoy a relaxed afternoon at Skitby in tranquil surroundings where you can pause for tea with friends and family or as part of a larger group.

Afternoon Tea was created by Anna the 7th Duchess of Bedford 1840. The Duchess complained of that “sinking feeling” in the afternoon due to the large gap between lunch and evening dinner so to avoid the feeling of mid-afternoon hunger requested a light meal and pot of tea to be served. By the mid-19th century afternoon tea was a fashionable afternoon social event
